Boca Raton, Fla. – The 2017 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division II All-South Region teams were announced on Wednesday, and three members of Lynn University saw themselves named: Tyler Curtis, Miguel Ceballos and Patrick Dorrian.
Curtis earned himself the spot as third baseman on the All-NCBWA First Team. The senior ranks first in league on base percentage (.518) and second in batting average (.433), slugging percentage (.733), and total bases (137). The Newburgh, N.Y. native also ranks Top-10 in league runs (59), hits (41), walks (31), and home runs (13).
The duo of Ceballos (Second Team) and Dorrian (Honorable Mention) found their names on the All-NCBWA postseason teams as well. Ceballos started the first two games at shortstop, while Dorrian saw time at second base, but after those two games the Fighting Knights called a switch in the middle infield that worked for the remaining 48 contests of the season. This was the Sunshine State Conference's best defensive middle infield duo, as Dorrian and Ceballos ranked second and fourth respectively in assists (145 and 138).
As the team's primary second baseman, Ceballos was dynamic at the plate, leading the team and third in the conference in home runs with 16 on the season. The Miami, Fla. native was top-10 in the SSC in runs scored with 50, third in home runs (16) and could beat you with his speed, ranking in the top 10 in stolen bases (12).
Dorrian excelled in the six-hole all year and was an immediate impact hitter when he transferred in this season for Lynn. The Kingston, N.Y. native was sixth in the conference in runs scored (55), tied for fourth in hits (81) with teammate and SSC Player of the Year, Curtis, fifth in doubles (16) and second in at bats (218).
