Melbourne, Fla. – Following a fifth-place finish in last season's Sunshine State Conference standings, the Lynn University baseball team has been selected fourth in the SSC Preseason Coaches Poll, as announced by the conference office on Thursday morning.
The Fighting Knights received 70 total points in the voting process, trailing Tampa (100), Nova Southeastern (89) and Florida Southern (80). Tampa received 10 first-place votes following back-to-back SSC championships in 2016 and 2017. Nova Southeastern received a lone first-place vote in the poll.
Lynn finished last season with an overall mark of 30-20, completing the conference slate with a 10-14 mark. The Blue and White return four starting position players, including all-region shortstop Patrick Dorrian and outfielders Jake Rouse, DJ Daniels and Gabe Martinez. Back on the mound for the Fighting Knights are relievers Daniel Nuzzi and Enrique Perez, along with starting pitchers Victor Danza and Rigo Beltran.
The season opens for the Fighting Knights at home on Friday, Feb. 2, with a 2:30 game against one of the top teams in the nation as Delta State comes to Boca Raton. Keep up with news, schedules, scores and more at LynnFightingKnights.com or @Lynn_Knights on Twitter and Instagram.
