Normal, Ill. – Lynn University baseball alum Billy Horn has been named manager of the Normal CornBelters of the Frontier League, as announced by the organization on Thursday afternoon.
Horn was a four-year player for the Fighting Knights from 1998 through 2001, appearing in 38 games as a pitcher for a total of 71.0 innings. He returned to the Blue and White in 2009 as the team's pitching coach, helping the squad to an NCAA National Championship while coaching First Team All-American Dan Wright and current New York Yankee, Tommy Kahnle.
"My goals are simple - to promote as many players to MLB organizations as possible and to put a competitive team on the field in search of a Frontier League Championship" says Horn. He spent last season as a pitching coach with the Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic League after spending the 2015 and 2016 seasons with the Ottawa Champions of the Canadian American League.
Horn isn't the first Fighting Knight to don the CornBelter uniform, as Ryan Lashley and Jason Matusik each played for the team during the 2013 season. In total, seven alumni of the Lynn baseball program have played in the Frontier League, with the most recent being Kyle Carter in 2015.
