Baseball’s Martinez Named CoSIDA Academic All-District

BOCA RATON, Fla. Lynn University baseball's Gabe Martinez has followed up an impressive senior season on the field and in the classroom with 2018 Google Cloud First-Team Academic All-District honors, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

First-team honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America ballot, with first- and second-team Academic All-America honorees announced on June 6.

Martinez finished the season batting .299, ranking fourth on the team in hits (55), fourth in runs (33) and fourth in total bases (75). His 184 at-bats were third-most on the team, and his 201 plate appearances ranked fourth on the squad as he appeared in 44 games overall. He set new career-high marks in runs, hits, home runs and RBIs, while tying his previous career-bests in doubles and walks.

The senior graduates with his masters in financial valuation and investment, holding a 3.66 grade point average in his graduate program after completing his undergraduate degree with a 3.62 GPA.

This is the third consecutive year that Lynn baseball has had at least one representative on the Academic All-District team, following Miguel Ceballos (2017), Kyle Schindler (2016) and Eric Schindler (2016). The West Palm Beach, Fla., native is the sixth different Fighting Knight to receive the honor since 2008.
