BOCA RATON, Fla. – After appearing in 15 games with a 2-1 record for the Arizona League Mariners, Lynn University baseball alum Rigo Beltran has been promoted to the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers. He becomes just the fourth Fighting Knight to reach the Triple-A level, joining Tommy Kahnle, Sal Giardina Jr. and Kyle Holloway.
Beltran debuted for the Rainiers on Monday evening, throwing 2.0 scoreless innings with two strikeouts. He retired all six batters he faced in the outing against the El Paso Chihuahuas. The lefty previously posted a 7.01 earned-run average with the rookie-league Mariners, tossing 25.2 innings and striking out 35 batters while walking just nine.
A Second Team All-Sunshine State Conference selection in 2018, Beltran was the ace for the Fighting Knights. He racked up 87 strikeouts in 87.2 innings with just 30 walks while going 6-2 with a 3.18 earned run average. The southpaw delivered eight quality starts of 6.0 innings or more with three or less earned runs allowed and finished among the Sunshine State Conference leaders in wins and K's.
Beltran was selected with the 14th pick, 928th overall, of the 31st round of the 2018 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft by the Seattle Mariners and is the eighth player selected from Lynn in the last 10 years and 10th since 2003.
