Melbourne, Fla. – Returning a solid core of veterans coupled with a slew of promising newcomers, Lynn University's baseball program has been selected fifth in the Sunshine State Conference's (SSC) Preseason Coaches Poll, as announced on Thursday afternoon.
The Fighting Knights earned 64 total points in the voting process, the eighth consecutive year that head coach Rudy Garbalosa's men have been chosen in the top-half of the SSC. Tampa (99), Florida Southern (90), Nova Southeastern (83) and Saint Leo (72) sit above the Blue and White in order from 1-4, respectively. Tampa garnered nine first-place votes as the three-time defending SSC champions with Florida Southern receiving the remaining two first-place nods.
Lynn will look to rebound after just its second losing season in Garbalosa's 18-year tenure, finishing 2018 with a 17-28 overall mark and 9-21 record in SSC play. Both Tom Archer and Shayne Fontana return to anchor the Lynn lineup after hitting .326 and .322, respectively, in 2018. On the bump, the Fighting Knights return Victor Danza and Anthony Franco on the backend and will welcome Florida Atlantic-transfer Nicholis Prather to the starting rotation.
The Blue and White will open the season on Friday, Feb. 1 at 2:30 p.m., taking on NCAA South Region opponent Catawba for opening day in Boca Raton. Keep up with news, schedules, scores and more at LynnFightingKnights.com or @Lynn_Knights on Twitter and Instagram.
