Men’s Basketball Deals the Saints their First Loss of the Season

Boca Raton, Fla.-Lynn University handed Flagler their first loss of the season when the Fighting Knights defeated the Saints 70-58 in the de Hoernle Center on Tuesday night. Lynn advances to 3-2 overall while Flagler now stands at 3-1. Shamel Akins led the game with his first double-double performance of the season recording 19 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. 

Lynn got on the board first when Pavle Raickovic was fouled just 30 seconds into the game and made both his shots from the charity line. The Saints never recovered as the Blue and White held the lead throughout the contest. With 11:35 remaining LU scored 11 unanswered points, ending their run with a Reed Ridder bucket from behind the arc, securing their lead 32-10. With 1:53 remaining beforehalftime, Lynn took their biggest lead of 25 at 42-17. 

In the first half the Fighting Knights shot 57.7% from the field and 69.2% from behind the arc, while holding the Saints to 24% from the field and 14.3% from the three-point line. Both Slobodan Miljanic and Brandon Smith made three treys each in the first half leading the team with nine points a-piece for a 45-20 halftime lead. 

A 21-2 second half surge from the Saints narrowed LU's lead to only seven with 12:27 remaining in the game, at 48-41.The Knights were able to fight off the added pressure from Flagler for a 12 point win 70-58. 

The Blue and White shot 82.6% from the charity line in the victory, making all of their first half shots. Four Fighting Knights scored in double digits and the team pulled down 42 rebounds total. The Knights will face their first SSC opponent of the season this weekend when they host Florida Southern on December 1. Tip-off is set for 4 pm in the de Hoernle Center.
