Men’s Basketball Closes Out Regular Season in Nail Biter at Eckerd

St. Petersburg, Fla.-Lynn University's men's basketball team closed out the regular season with a tough loss at Eckerd, 67-65. The Fighting Knights rallied with five minutes to play with back-to-back three-point shots. Kaleb Clyburn led the Blue and White with 12 points, three rebounds, and two assists. Brandon Smith added 11 points while Kevin Ohen pulled down a team-high six boards.

Lynn took the lead first after opening the game with a layup for the 2-0 lead. With just under ten minutes to play Brandon Smith sunk a trey to tie the game at 11-all. A Reed Ridder shot from downtown would put the Fighting Knights up 16-15 to take back the lead. The Blue and White would trail 30-21 at the sound of the first half buzzer. 

Pavle Raickovic led the Fighting Knights with six points and four rebounds in the first half. LU shot 29.6 percent from the field while out rebounding the Tritons 19-14. Eckerd was led by Alex Boney with 13 points, while the team shot 47.8 percent from the field.

The Blue and White opened the second half momentum as a trey from Shamel Akins would cut the lead deficit to five with 15 minutes to play. A layup from Ohen put the Knights within four, at 35-31. A series of treys from the Fighting Knights brought the game within three with 4:17 to play.

With 1:30 to play Clyburn sunk a trey from the top of the arc to tie the game at 63-all. A block by Ohen would give the Knights the ball back as Raickovic would hit a wide-open jumper to tie the game with 16.8 to play in regulation. Clyburn was able to get a last second shot off but it hit the rim at the sound of the buzzer.

LU hit eighth shots from downtown in the second half, for 72.7 percent shooting from behind the arc. The Fighting Knights improved to 59.3 percent from the field in the second half while pulling down 35 rebounds throughout the contest.
