BOCA RATON, Fla.-Lynn University's men's basketball team dropped 65-61 to rival Barry on Wednesday night. The Fighting Knights were led by sophomore duo Kaleb Clyburn and Brandon Smith, who scored 14 points and 13 points, respectively.
Jeremy Lampkin started the game off with a shot from downtown that would put LU up 3-0. The lead would change four times over the course of the first half with Lynn regaining control with 1:44 to play after a jumper from Lampkin. The Knights headed into the break with a 25-23 lead.
The Blue and White shot 39.1 percent from the field while holding the Buccaneers to only 30.8 percent. LU out rebounded the Bucs 18-14 while Smith connected on three-of-four shots from behind the arc to lead the Knights offensively.
An opening half trey from Justin McCoy would put the Bucs on top by one, at 26-25. McCoy, who led all scorers with 23 points, tallied 21 in the second half alone. LU got into foul trouble early in the second half, but was able to stay within no more than five points of the Buccaneers. With six seconds on the clock, Barry took its biggest lead of six. An LU tip-in by Pavle Raickovic in the final second would seal the four-point loss.
The Fighting Knights improved their shooting to 48 percent in the second half while Barry improved to 42.9 percent. The Bucs pulled down 15 boards while LU had 12. Barry shot 87.5 percent from the charity line, connecting on 28 free throws. Clyburn scored 11 points in the second half while dishing five assists throughout the game.
LU moves to 11-11 overall, 3-9 in the Sunshine State Conference while Barry stands at 10-11, 4-8 in the SSC. On February 16 Lynn will host Rollins at 4 pm.
