BOCA RATON, Fla.- Lynn University's men's basketball team was led by senior Jeremy Lampkin in a Sunshine State Conference loss to Florida Tech on Wednesday night. Lampkin scored a season-high 20 points in the 90-80 loss. The Fighting Knights move to 11-13 overall, 3-11 in the SSC while Florida Tech advances to 13-10, 6-7 in conference play.
Lynn scored first with a layup from Pavle Raickovic less than 30 seconds into the game. After a foul from Jerrell Oxendine, the Panthers' Julius Reid tied the score on a set of free throws. The score would tie four more times throughout the course of the first half while the lead would change seven times. At the half, the Panthers held a 40-37 edge over the Fighting Knights.
Senior Shamel Akins tallied 11 points in the opening half while Raickovic added seven. LU pulled down 19 boards, seven offensive. The Blue and White shot 40.6 percent from the field and 57.1 percent from the three-point line while holding the Panthers to only 25 percent from downtown.
Oxendine opened the second half with a trey to even the score at 40-all. The Panthers would turn up their momentum and take their biggest lead of fifteen at 9:32 after a jumper from Jermaine Jackson. With 21 seconds to play senior Slobodan Miljanic narrowed the Knights deficit to nine, at 86-77. Foul trouble struck the Blue and White which gave Florida Tech a 13-point lead. A Reed Ridder trey ended the game with LU behind, 90-80, at the buzzer.
Lampkin scored 14 points in the second half, while Ridder added nine. LU improved its shooting to 44.1 percent in the second half while connecting on seven-of-eleven shots from the charity line. The Panthers shot 59.1 percent from the field in the second half while shooting 87 percent from the free throw line.
Florida Tech's Chris Carter scored a game-high 28 points, while Reid added 21 for the Panthers. Alongside Lampkin was Ridder, who tallied 14 points while shooting four-for-four from downtown. Akins added 13 points while Raickovic added 11.
Before the game Lynn University recognized seniors Lampkin, Akins, and Miljanic for their accomplishments on the court for the Blue and White.
