Lynn’s Berry & Carpenter Help Men’s Basketball Complete SSC Sweep of Eckerd

St. Petersburg, Fla.- Lynn University's men's basketball team got back on track with 74-64 win over Eckerd on Saturday to complete the regular season Sunshine State Conference sweep of the Tritons. Ben Berry had a team-high 20 points and freshman Vanderbilt Carpenter had a career-high 13 points. Lynn improves to 15-5 overall and 8-3 in league play while the Tritons fall to 11-10 overall and 4-7 in SSC action.

Lynn took its first lead of the game, 6-4, on a jumper by Fred Landers who logged all of the Blue & White's points until that point. The Fighting Knights never trailed again in the half, even though Eckered closed the gap to two points, Lynn held on for a 37-30 lead at the break.

Vanderbilt Carpenter put on his most impressive half of his young career as a Fighting Knight, with a team-best 10 points shooting 3-for-3 from the field and making all four of his free throw attempts. David Johnson, Ben Berry and Landers all had six points each in the opening stanza. Eckerd shot 46.7 percent from the floor, besting Lynn in field goal shooting by 3.4 percent. Lynn connected on 90 percent of free throws in the half and out-rebounded EC 37-27.

Lynn led by nine for majority of the second half. The Fighting Knights took a 15-point lead with 4:04 to play after a Aaron Harrison made a free throw to complete a three-point play. The Blue & White held on to win by ten, 74-64, for its eighth league win of the season.

Ben Berry had 14 points in the second half, leading all scorers. Harrison put up nine points, eight rebounds and a steal. Lynn shot 39.1 from the field and 81.8 percent from the free throw line in the half while holding Eckerd to 14.3 percent from three-point range. Lynn had 24 rebounds and held EC to just 13 and as a team blocked four shots.

Overall, the Fighting Knights shot 41.5 percent from the field and 84.4 percent from the charity stripe. Alongside Berry's 20-point performance were Harrison and Carpenter who also scored in double figures. Fred Landers and Russell Wilson each had nine points and Wilson had a game-best four assists.
