Kande Named SSC Defensive Player of the Week

Melbourne, Fla. – Senior Vieux Kande of the Lynn University men's basketball team has been selected as the Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday.

Kande had another big day on the defensive glass this weekend as the Fighting Knights went on the road and defeated Nova Southeastern, 80-68, for the squad's first SSC victory on the young season. The Dakar, Senegal product finished with a game-high 14 rebounds (nine defensive), eight points, two assists and one of Lynn's two blocks in the game. Kande and the Fighting Knights held Nova Southeastern to 68 points in the win, 11 points under the Sharks' per game average against conference opponents.

Kande has recorded double-digit rebounds in four of the team's eight games so far this season. He is the league's leading rebounder at 11.6 per game, including a SSC-high 7.7 defensive boards per game. He also ranks third in the league in blocks per game at 1.3.

It marks the first weekly honor of the season for Lynn and the first for Kande in his Blue and White career.

The Fighting Knights are on their home court tomorrow night, Tuesday, Dec. 13, for a 7:30 p.m. clash with Miles College.
