Botley Named League’s Newcomer of the Year, Lands on All-SSC Second Team

Melbourne, Fla. – Marquan Botley of the Lynn University men's basketball team has been announced as the Sunshine State Conference Newcomer of the Year, as released by the league office on Wednesday. Additionally, the senior guard earned a spot on the All-SSC Second Team and the All-SSC Newcomer Team.

Botley came to Lynn this season after playing his first three years down the road at FAU. He is the first Newcomer of the Year selection in program history.

The Dallas, Texas product guided the Fighting Knights' offense all season long, averaging team-highs in minutes (33.0) and points (16.8). His scoring output is good for sixth-highest in the conference.

Botley did most of his damage from beyond the arc, leading the SSC and ranking sixth in the nation in three-pointers per game (3.72). At Florida Southern, he broke his own school-record for three's in a game with 10 and also holds the single-season three-point record with 93 and counting.

Barry's Elvar Fridriksson was tabbed Player of the Year with the Bucs' skipper Butch Estes named Coach of the Year. Florida Southern's rim protector Jarel Spellman earned Defensive Player of the Year honors with Rollins' Connor Mckim grabbing Freshman of the Year accolades.
