Rain Halts Play with Lynn Men's Golf in Second

Lakeland, Fla. - Lynn University's men's golf team brought the thunder in an exciting first round of action at the Matlock Collegiate Classic which was halted due to rain and lightning.  Keith Greene is tied for first overall and the team shot a seven-under par 281.

Greene is one of six golfers on the day to post a five-under par 67 to help put the Fighting Knights in contention.  Greene surpassed his career-best by one shot with a career-low 67.

Fresh off his first tournament win, Mateo Gomez was in top-form once again, firing a three-under 69 to tie for 8th place.   Lynn's duo is two of 23 golfers to shoot under par in the tournament, the most for any round in the Matlock Classic since 1999.

Junior Jose Miranda posted his fourth round of par or better in seven career rounds in this event.  He shot an even par 72 and is tied for 24th individually.  The Fighting Knights three rounds of par or better overshadowed the fine day Elliott Whitley had on the course, where he shot a one-over par 73.  Martin Cancino was the high score for Lynn with a 75, respectively.

Nova Southeastern, with an 11-under 277, posted the best opening round since Alabama in 1999.  The Fighting Knights, though, are only four shots back and holding off Florida Tech (284) and Barry (284) in third.  South Carolina-Aiken rounds out the top-five at 285.  West Florida (287) and Valdosta State (287) were the sixth and seventh schools under par for the day.

Due to the threat of heavier rain in the afternoon, the remainder of the second round is scheduled to be completed Tuesday morning with the final round to follow. Pairings will remain the same for round three as they were for the first two rounds.
