Solid Opening Day for Men’s Golf at Southeastern Collegiate

Valdosta, Ga. – Lynn University's men's golf team was the only squad to shoot under par in the opening round and holds a one-shot lead heading into the second round at the Southeastern Collegiate.  Both Keith Greene and Elliott Whitley both shot under par on the 7,311-yard, par 72 Kinderlou Forest Golf Club course.

The tandem of Greene and Whitley combined to shoot four-under par over the first seven holes of play.  Greene birdied holes No. 3 & 6 while Whitley was under par on the first and fourth holes.  Bogeys on the eighth, ninth and 10th holes halted some momentum for each but Whitley played bogey-free golf on the back nine while Greene birdied No. 13 as each shot 71s and are tied for eighth individually.

Mateo Gomez found himself over par after the opening hold but birdied No. 5 to even up before a bogey at No. 9 sent him to one-over par at the turn.  The sophomore transfer birdied two of the next three holes only to bogey No. 15 to finish even par on the afternoon.

Martin Cancino logged 15 pars on the day to go along with two bogeys and one birdie.  He finished with a one-over 73.  Jose Miranda had an ok day overall, shooting +1 through 17 total holes but a triple-bogey on the par 5 No. 14 hole had him card a 75, respectively.

The fifth-ranked Fighting Knights shot 287 as a team, the fifth time in eight tournaments they have opened with a round of par or better.  No. 10 Flagler is hot on Lynn's heels with a 288 with Florida Tech and Armstrong knotted at 290.  Georgia College & State and seventh-ranked Saint Leo are battling for fifth at 292.

Lynn will tee off the second round on the 10th hole beginning at 10 a.m.  Fans can keep up with the action live at and receive in-tournament updates by following @Lynn_Knights on Twitter and Instagram.
