Valdosta, Ga. – Lynn University's men's golf team turned in another solid round on the links but could not retake the lead, settling for second place at the Southeastern Collegiate on Tuesday afternoon. Elliott Whitley and Mateo Gomez each turned in under-par rounds to place within the top-10 on the 7,311-yard, par 72 Kinderlou Forest Golf Club course.
Whitley had a perfect day, recording 16 pars and two birdies for a two-under par 70. The junior out of Ontario, Canada, led the field with 46 pars and ranked in the top-10 for par 3 (E), par 4 (E) and par 5 (-2) scoring. He closed out the tournament tied for sixth individually with two-under par 214.
Gomez bogeyed his third hole of the morning but bounced back for a birdie on the par 3 fifth hole. He then moved to two-under par with birdies on hole Nos. 11 & 12 before a bogey on the 17th hole finished his day with a one-under 71. Gomez would finish tied for seventh with a 54-hole score of 215.
Keith Greene just missed placing in the top-10 for his fifth consecutive tournament. He shot a final round 75 for a 218 total and a tie for 12th individually. Jose Miranda tied for 28th with a 223 and Martin Cancino was the last of the starting five with a 226, respectively.
Lynn shot 291 as a team, tied for second-best on the day, but could not catch Saint Leo (859). The Fighting Knights (868) were able to hold off Barry (876) while Flagler (881) and Florida Tech (884) rounded out the top-five.
