Gomez Sets School Record in Saint Leo Invitational Victory

Saint Leo, Fla. – Lynn University's men's golf team faltered on the final day of the Saint Leo Invitational, taking fourth place, but Mateo Gomez won his second career tournament.  The junior posted a 54-hole program record 201 in claiming medalist honors.

Although not as prolific as the previous day, Gomez recorded three birdies en route to a one-over par 73.  He held off challengers Michael Peter (North Alabama), Mario Beltran (Barry) and Andrew Hall (Carson-Newman) by one stroke with a 201 total.  Gomez led the field with 19 birdies to go along with 31 pars.

Jose Miranda tied for 15th with a score of 211, followed by Manuel Torres (215), Elliott Whitley (220) and Martin Cancino (221).  Andres Tancred posted a 220 score playing separate from the starting five.

Lynn shot 12-over par on the final day at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club and finished with a 54-hole score of 845 to fall behind winner Barry (836), North Alabama (839) and host Saint Leo (841).  Florida Southern and Florida Tech (846) tied for fifth.
