Men’s Golf Takes Third at Southeastern Collegiate

Valdosta, Ga. - Lynn University's men's golf team finished third overall at the First Federal Southeastern Collegiate after posting its best team score of the tournament.  Mateo Gomez lost in a playoff and finished second individually.

  • The Fighting Knights shot a one-under 287 as a team and closed out the 54-hole event with an 867 team score.  Florida Southern collected the victory with an 862 and Nova Southeastern placed second with an 865. West Florida (868) and Barry (873) rounded out the top-five.
  • Gomez was looking for his third victory of the year but fell short when eventual tournament champion John Coultas sank a 20-foot putt to claim the win.  He finished with a 213 total.
  • Jose Miranda logged his best round of the tournament with a one-under par 71 to finish with a score of 219.
  • Manuel Torres and Martin Cancino hit the clubhouse with 220s while Elliott Whitley posted his second consecutive round of even par to finish with a 222.


  • The First Federal Southeastern Collegiate featured six top-10 and 10 top-25 programs, headlined by second ranked Saint Leo, third ranked West Florida, No. 4 Nova Southeastern, No. 5 Florida Southern and No. 6 Barry.  Eighth-ranked Lynn finished ahead of all but two of those teams.
  • Gomez was in line for his third victory of the year and fourth of his career, which would have tied him for the program record.
  • Lynn led the field in par 5 scoring (-13) and was second in par putts (185).
  • Cancino was tied for the lead in par 5 scoring (-5) with Gomez tied for third in par 4s (-1) and Torrez tied for third in par 3s (-2).
  • Torres and Gomez each sank 10 birdie putts and Whitley and Gomez converted 39 par putts apiece.
