BOCA RATON, Fla. - Lynn University head men's golf coach Andrew Danna announced the signing of Chandler McDowell to a national letter of intent. McDowell will join the Fighting Knights program in January 2018.
"Chandler is a tremendous golfer and will be a fantastic addition to the Lynn University men's golf program," said head coach Andrew Danna. "His drive to succeed is in line with the culture of the team and I believe he can be a valuable player in our quest for a national title."
McDowell arrives in Boca Raton as a highly touted golfer from Alberta, Canada. He is one of three rookies to earn spots on the Canadian National Development Squad, a team designed to help facilitate the continued development of Canada's top young talents.
The 17-year old collected a share of second at Alberta's Junior Boys Championship and closed in eighth at the Alberta Men's Amateur Championship. In 2016 he took top honors at the Alberta Juveniles Boys Championship and placed third at the PGA of Alberta Junior Masters.
McDowell joins a Fighting Knights team which has finished as the NCAA Division II National Runner-Up in four of the last seven years and returns two-time All-American Manuel Torres, Freshman All-American and Masters participant Toto Gana and the Phil Mickelson Outstanding Freshman Award recipient Felix Kvarnstrom.
Lynn returns to the links on Sunday, Jan. 28, when it squares-off against Seton Hall in a dual match set at Osprey Point in Boca Raton, Fla., for the South Florida Showdown. The team then begins its season on Feb. 12, at the Matlock Invitational.
