Gana and Torres Recognized as All-SSC Performers

Melbourne, Fla. – The top-two golfers on the Lynn University men's golf team, Toto Gana and Manuel Torres, were each honored as All-Sunshine State Conference selections, as announced on by the league office on Friday.  Both student-athletes collected second team recognition, making it five consecutive years the Fighting Knights have recorded at least two All-SSC honorees.

Gana leads the Blue and White with a 71.0 stroke average and five top-10 finishes over 23 rounds played.  His 71 stroke average is currently the lowest in program history for a single season.  The Santiago, Chile, native is ranked 20th in Division II and seventh in the SSC.

Torres becomes just the third three-time All-SSC selection in school history, joining Mateo Gomez (2015-17) and Daniel Young (2011-13).  He has a 71.21 stroke average, third-best in program history, with four top-10 finishes in 29 rounds played.  His 15 career top-10 finishes puts him into a tie for fifth at Lynn.

While Lynn logged multiple all-conference selections, it was shut out of first team recognition for the first time since 2007.  Florida Southern's John VanDerLaan was named the SSC Golfer of the Year while Saint Leo's Alberto Castagnar earned Freshman of the Year and Florida Tech's head coach Chris Saltmarsh was named Coach of the Year.

Lynn's dynamic duo led the team to its 16th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, where they will participate in the South/Southeast Regional at Rock Barn Country Club in Conover, N.C. from May 7-9.  A top-seven finish will put the team in the NCAA Division II National Championship May 21-25 at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at the Shoals, Fighting Joe Course in Muscle Shoals, Ala.
