All Five Men’s Golfers Advance at Latin American Amateur Championship

Caso de Campo, Dominican Republic All five Lynn University's men's golf entrants were within the top-50 after 36-holes and have made the cut for the 2019 Latin American Amateur Championship.  Incoming freshman Agustin Erazzuriz is tied for second individually with Jorge Villar tied for fourth on the par 72 Teeth of the Dog course.

The Fighting Knights five golfers is the most by a single institution in the field and is the most Lynn has sent to the LAAC in school history.

Erazzuriz, set to join the Blue and White for the 2019 spring season, was four-under par after the first two days of competition and is two shots back of the leader, Alvaro Ortiz.  The Chilean posted rounds of 69 and 71.

Villar was even par in the opening round and shot a three-under 69 on Friday to move within the top-five.  Toto Gana gives Lynn three in the top-10 as he entered the third round in a tie for ninth.  Carlos Bustos is tied for 23rd while Manuel Torres is tied for 27th

Erazzuriz is attempting to become the second member of the Fighting Knights to win the Latin American Amateur Championship following Gana's victory in 2017.  Should the Santiago, Chile, product win, he would also be the fourth countryman to claim a LAAC title.

The 72-hole, stroke play tournament cut its field of 108 male players to the top-50 players, plus ties, after 36 holes.  In the event of a tie, the winner is decided by sudden-death playoff.  The only playoff to occur came in 2017 as Gana edged out Joaquin Niemann (2018 winner) and Alvaro Ortiz (runner-up in 2017 & 2018) on the second playoff hole.

In addition to the invitation to compete at the 2019 Masters Tournament, the winner also receives an exemption into The Amateur Championship, conducted by The R&A, an exemption into the U.S. Amateur Championship, an exemption in The Open Qualifying Series – final qualifying, with an opportunity to earn a place in The 148th Open at Royal Portrush, and an exemption into sectional qualifying for the U.S. Open, with an opportunity to earn a place in the 2019 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach.
