Lacrosse Rallies but Falls 13-10 to #3 LIU-Post

Palm Coast, Fla.- Lynn University's lacrosse team rallied late in the fourth quarter scoring six unanswered goals but fell  short to No. 3 Long Island University-Post on Saturday afternoon, 13-10. Anthony Rainone scored a team-high four goals and one assist for five points while Austin Jerhoff had a hat trick with three goals including back-to-back goals in the final five minutes of play.

LIU took a 2-0 lead in the first quarter but Anthony Rainone's first goal assisted by Johnny Gavin at 3:37 cut the Fighting Knights deficit to one. The Pioneers came out hot in the second quarter extending their lead to 5-1. Rainone and Jerhoff scored 40 seconds apart to make it a two-goal game with 6:35 left in the half. LIU would have three more unassisted goals to end the half with an 8-3 lead.

Post scored three goals over the first six and a half minutes to lead 11-3 with 8:32 left in the third quarter. Rainone scored an unassisted man-down goal at 6:47 to make it an 11-4 game. The Pioneers would score two more goals extending their lead to 13-4 by the final horn of the third quarter.

Despite trailing by nine with just 15 minutes left the game, the Fighting Knights were relentless and scored six unanswered goals in the fourth quarter. At 6:58 Rainone logged his fourth goal on an assist from Brian Kiel. Gavin scored at 5:09 assisted by Tyler Janvrin to make it a 13-6 game. Jerhoff scored back-to-back goals at 4:52 and 4:32 while Rainone picked up the assist on his first goal. Mark Snellman scored at 1:39 assisted by Gavin and Kiel had an unassisted goal with 1:11 to cap off the Fighting Knights 6-0 run.

Nick Nehring made seven saves in goal for the Blue & White while recording a team-high six groundballs. Caleb Cerf had five ground balls and an assist while Angelo Beacon-Paglia had four. Rainone's four goals came on four attempts to be the first player in program history to shoot 100 percent during a game. Jerhoff and Gavin each had three points in the loss.
