Lacrosse Introduces 2018 Incoming Class

BOCA RATON, Fla. – With the start of the 2018 campaign right around the corner, take a look at who head coach Brian Kingsbury and the Lynn University lacrosse staff have brought in to join the Fighting Knights' squad this upcoming season.

"In one word to describe our freshman class – athletic," Kingsbury said. "Overall, we have size, speed, and endurance. Many of the freshmen come from solid high school careers and will earn some playing time this season. Off the field, they have done a great job in the classroom and in the community. I am very pleased with the recruiting efforts of assistant coach Lloyd Hamilton in building this class."

Cole Brammer
Freshman | Midfield
Hilton Head, S.C. | Hilton Head Island High School

A defensive midfielder and LSM from Hilton Head, S.C., Brammer earned Defensive Player of the Year accolades for the Seahawks and collected 63 groundballs his senior year.

From the Coach: "Tall and lanky, Cole will have a medical redshirt this year. He has done a great job meshing with the team and I look forward to seeing him on the field again."


Jared Chaloux
Freshman | Midfield
Boca Raton, Fla. | Saint John Paul II High School


A local product with long-standing connections to the program, Chaloux comes to the Blue and White from next door Saint John Paul. While with the Eagles, Chaloux earned First Team all-region honors while tallying 45 goals and 30 assists in his senior season.

From the Coach: "It's great to keep the local kids around playing at the next level. Jared is fast, quick and shifty with soft hands. He can create, read the defense and find the open person."


Jensen Colberg
Freshman | Midfield
Madison, Conn. | Cheshire Academy

A two-time all-league honorable mention offensive midfielder, Colberg finished with 99 goals and 80 assists for a total of 179 career points at Cheshire Academy.

From the Coach: "Jensen is a strong, sheer athlete and competitor. He has taken his new role as an LSM in stride and can run for hours. I like his offensive background as he can push transition with the pole."


Xander Cosenza
Freshman | Midfield
Bay Shore, N.Y. | Bay Shore High School

With the Marauders, Cosenza was a three-time all-county selection playing in the attack and in the midfield. After an impressive 50-goal, 20-assist senior season, Cosenza finished his high school career with 65 goals and 45 assists for 130 points.

From the Coach: "Xander is a humble freshman with great size and speed who can sting it on the run. He is a great addition to the team with a lot of potential to do great things over his career here at Lynn University."


Jacob Couvertier
Freshman | Midfield
Weston, Fla. | American Heritage School - Plantation

Following 35 goals and 32 assists during his senior campaign, Couvertier picked up First Team all-county, all-district and all-region plaudits.

From the Coach: "Coming off a strong senior year in high school, Couvs has great size with a powerful downhill dodge. A local product, once he starts going he is hard to stop."


Drew Custance
R-Senior | Midfield
Commack, N.Y. | Providence College / St. Anthony's High School

After playing three seasons as a defensive midfielder at the NCAA Division I level for Providence College, Custance comes to Lynn as a graduate-student transfer. While with the Friars, Custance appeared in 25 games, collecting 35 groundballs with seven caused turnovers in his career.

From the Coach: "Drew has four years of experience at a DI program and it's been great to see his experience show on the field. Strong and fast, Drew is able to run with any midfielder and push the ball in transition."


Ryan Haefling
Freshman | Midfield
Plano, Texas | Plano High School

A 6'4" midfielder hailing from Plano, Texas, Haefling's offensive prowess earned him all-district recognition in 2016 and 2017.

From the Coach: "Ryan has a great frame to be one heck of a defenseman. Tall, lanky, good side to side, and fast, Ryan has a bright future at Lynn University."


Ben Jackson
Freshman | Midfield
St. Louis, Mo. | Chaminade College Prep

With the Red Devils, Jackson was a two-time all-state and all-conference honoree. He finished his career with 128 points, recording 66 goals and 62 assists.

From the Coach: "Ben is the fastest long-distance guy our on team. He has a motor that does not stop, which is being used to develop him into a two-way midfielder."


Harrison Kaplan
Freshman | Defense/LSM
Fishkill, N.Y. | John Jay High School

A New Yorker with a disruptive defensive approach, Kaplan recorded 137 caused turnovers in his career with 178 ground balls.

From the Coach: "Kaplan is a big, strong, fast, defenseman with a solid base and a good stick. He doesn't make many mistakes and is picking up the defensive system quickly."


Daniel Luette
Freshman | Midfield
Orlando, Fla. | West Orange High School

A 6'1" midfielder out of Orlando, Fla., Luette was named all-conference and all-district each of the past two seasons while scoring 45 goals for the West Orange Warriors in his senior year.

From the Coach: "Luette has a rare gift of being able to run next anyone while keeping his hands on their hips. Tall, lanky, deceptively strong and fast athlete makes him a great DM as a freshman."


Keegan Maxwell
Freshman | Attack
Center Moriches, N.Y. | Center Moriches High School

Tabbed as an enforcer in the crease, Maxwell registered 256 career points for the Red Devils. He is a three-time all-county pick while earning Rookie of the Year and Academic All-American accolades.

From the Coach: "Maxwell has unreal hands and is crafty around the cage. He always brings a positive attitude to any situation making him a great team player."


Nick McCabe
R-Freshman | Midfield
Boca Raton, Fla. | Rutgers University / Boca Raton High School

McCabe makes his return to South Florida this year after spending his first collegiate season at Rutgers University. While at Boca Raton High School, McCabe registered 189 goals and 82 assists while twice being named an US Lacrosse All-American.

From the Coach: "A local talent who is very shifty, strong, competitive, and can play both sides of the ball. Nick's ambidextrous ability combined with his unselfishness make him difficult to defend and an asset to our team."


Connor Owens
Freshman | Goalie
Chattanooga, Tenn. | The McCallie School

Owens helped lead his squad to three state championship appearances, including a state title in 2015. As a junior, Owens earned Second Team all-region honors for is performance in the cage.

From the Coach: "Connor is a very mature goalie for a freshman with a big presence in the cage. With quick hands and good side steps, he makes the save."


Joseph Reed
Freshman | Attack
St. Louis, Mo. | Ladue Horton Watkins High School

An all-state and all-conference selection for the Rams, Reed will provide speed in the attack and offensive midfield positions for the Fighting Knights.

From the Coach: "Joe has explosive speed that makes defenses react. He can play with both hands equally, making him a difficult matchup to guard."


Chase Stokes
Freshman | Attack
Vero Beach, Fla. | Saint Edwards School

As an attackman for the Saint Edwards Pirates, Stokes earned several accolades including 2017 Player of the Year, First Team all-area (2017), First Team all-district (2016, 2017) and Second Team all-area (2016). His junior year, he was the runner-up for Player of the Year. During his career at St. Edwards, he netted 147 career goals.

From the Coach: "A Florida product, Stokes can shoot the lights out. He has grown up quickly as a freshman learning different offensive schemes and is transitioning well to the college game."


UP NEXT: The Fighting Knights will host a pair of scrimmages around the January/February turn before opening up the 2018 season on Saturday, Feb. 17, with a neutral-site matchup against Mars Hill University in Savannah, Ga.
