BOCA RATON, Fla. – Lynn University's top-ranked men's soccer team was running on all cylinders again, topping Delta State by a score of 7-0 in the second game of the Wyndham Deerfield Beach Resort Men's Soccer Classic. Chris Hellmann notched a hat trick for the second consecutive game, giving him seven goals in two matches this season. Victor Moriera also tallied a pair of goals to help the Fighting Knights improve to 2-0-0 overall.
With both teams at a stalemate through the first 20 minutes of competition, head coach John Rootes made some deft substitutions in hopes of getting his team on track. Those maneuvers paid dividends almost immediately as Moriera collected a through ball by Hellmann and beat the keeper in a one-v-one situation for his first goal as a member of the Blue & White.
The offensive floodgates opened with Hellmann scoring three minutes later on a header from a Sebastian Schulz cross. Another goal by Moriera in the 41st minute led to the Fighting Knights owning a 3-0 lead at the break.
Goals continued to come in bunches with Hellmann scoring a minute apart in the 51st and 52nd minutes. The second goal was the third for the junior striker and gives him seven goals in two matches. He also has 17 points in total (seven goals, three assists). Bruno Militz and Tomer Bitton also found the back of the net while the defensive unit of James Casserly, Luca Puster, Hussein Heidari and Geir Kristinsson collected a clean sheet for the second consecutive match.
