Cards Aplenty as Men’s Soccer Stays Unbeaten vs. Sailfish

BOCA RATON, Fla. - Tensions flared in a match-up between top-25 schools with a combined 12 cards and 49 fouls called in top-ranked Lynn University's 2-2 draw with No. 21 Palm Beach Atlantic on Wednesday night.  Chris Hellmann turned in his nation-leading eighth goal but saw his potential game-winner hit off the underside of the crossbar near the end of regulation.  The Fighting Knights move to 2-0-1 overall and 17-0-2 all-time against the Sailfish.

Scoring as fast as the lightning overhead Bobby Campbell Stadium, the Blue & White were on the board in the sixth minute of play off a brilliant goal from Sebastian Schulz.  The junior forward knocked in a free kick pass from Hellmann to inside the left post for the early 1-0 lead.

Less than a minute later, Hellmann was there to capitalize on a PBA (5-0-1) mistake when the Sailfish defense missed on a clearance attempt.  The reigning NCAA Division II scoring leader pounced and beat the keeper one-v-one for the goal.

Palm Beach Atlantic took advantage of their own failed clearance as Lucas Coutinho scored on a shot from the far left wing but the Sailfish gained the advantage when Lynn went down a man due to a red card in the 56th minute of play.  The Fighting Knights held strong for much of the half but Eddy Millen found the back of the net in the 72nd minute to tie the game.

Lynn thought it had taken back the lead in the 88th minute when Hellmann was fed a pass from Bruno Militz.  His ensuing shot from inside the shot sailed over the PBA keeper's hands and hit the bottom of the crossbar but the linesman said no-goal and the match continued.

The Fighting Knights are back on their home field Saturday, September 19, at 7 p.m. when they host Saint Leo.  Fans can watch the match at and receive updates by following @Lynn_Knights on Twitter and Instagram.  Don't forget to 'Like' us on Facebook.
