BOCA RATON, Fla. – For the sixth consecutive game lightning halted play for Lynn University's top-ranked men's soccer team and for the second consecutive match the squad played a man down but this time Saint Leo came out on top 3-1 on Saturday night. Chris Hellmann continued his torrid scoring pace with his ninth goal but the Fighting Knights dropped their first-ever game at Bobby Campbell stadium and fell to 2-1-1 overall and 0-1-0 in Sunshine State Conference play.
Saint Leo (3-1-0, 1-0-0 SSC) came out of the first lightning delay and shocked the Blue & White with a goal from Max Schulze. Bafou Sanogo split Lynn's defense with a pass and Schulze was there to beat Jonny DeMoya for the early lead.
Immediately after the second half whistle blew, Yuga Yanagisawa scored the eventual game-winner when a poor clearance attempt gave him the ball near the top of the box. The Lions defender put his shot into the top right corner.
Lynn went down a man in the 55th minute of play and attempted to make a tying run. Hellmann scored on a penalty kick in the 78th minute only to have Pascal Derwaritsch put the game away with a drawn up defense and keeper.
The Fighting Knights are back on the pitch at Barry University on Wednesday, September 23, at 7 p.m. Fans can watch the action live at LynnFightingKnights.com and receive in-game updates by following @Lynn_Knights on Twitter and Instagram. Don't forget to 'Like' us on Facebook.
