Kansas City, Mo. – A successful opening weekend of two victories has pushed Lynn University's men's soccer team ahead in the national rankings to No. 5, as announced by the United Soccer Coaches. The Fighting Knights are the highest of four Sunshine State Conference schools in the top-25 poll.
A fantastic combination of offense and defense led the Blue and White to outscoring their opponents 9-0 in the two matches. Lynn kicked-off the year with a 5-0 shutout against Auburn Montgomery before taking down Alabama Huntsville 4-0 in its home opener.
Alun Webb provided the offensive spark with four goals, including his first career hat trick against the Chargers. Newcomer Elliott Legg added to the onslaught with a goal and assist from the back line while reigning South Region Player of the Year Jack Watson notched the game-winner against AUM.
Headlined by the twin towers of Niklas Tasky (6-foot-4) and Daniel Brenan (6-foot-5), Lynn's defense was even more impressive as it held its two opponents to a mere two shots on goal. Alexander Roth did not have much to look at but still logged the clean sheets, giving him 10 for his career.
The Fighting Knights are the top-ranked school from the SSC, which also features Tampa (No. 12), Palm Beach Atlantic (No. 13) and Florida Tech (No. 20). Rollins College, which upset top-ranked Wingate 2-1, is receiving votes.
