Melbourne, Fla. – Lynn University's men's soccer team remained unbeaten thanks to the efforts of both Lukas Hombach and Konstantin Fuhry against Florida Southern this past weekend and both student-athletes have been rewarded with the announcement of Sunshine State Conference Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Hombach was once again in the middle of another game-winner for the 17th-ranked Fighting Knights. The junior attacking player scored his third goal of the season in the 58th minute of play, which proved the game-winner on the road at the Moccasins. All three of Hombach's goals this year have been winners and his three goals and seven points are also career-highs and ties him for the team lead in both categories.
Fuhry was at his best against Florida Southern, turning away five shots to keep the Blue and White's campaign undefeated. The sophomore netminder's five saves is a new career-high while he extended his shutout streak to 314 minutes. This is the third consecutive shutout for Lynn and the fourth in the last five matches. The Fighting Knights have posted at least four shutouts every year of the program's existence.
This is the second and third SSC weekly accolade for the men's soccer team. Rodrigo Fernandez garnered offensive recognition in the first week of the season.
Hombach and Fuhry are back on the pitch Wednesday, Oct. 9, when Lynn (6-0-1, 3-0-1 SSC) travels to Miami Shores, Fla., to battle longtime rival Barry University. Kick-off is set for 6 p.m. and can be watched at LynnFightingKnights.com.
