Men’s Tennis Starts Strong in Pairs Play on Fall Opening Day

West Palm Beach, Fla. – Lynn University's men's tennis team opened up its 2018 fall slate on Friday at the PBA Sailfish Invitational with a strong showing in doubles competition.

#1 Doubles Flight

  • Gabriel Hocevar and newcomer Lucca Baptista represented the Blue and White in the top doubles flight. The pair first knocked off de Fraia/Nicolas of Rollins, 8-5, before falling to Gomez/Ventura from Barry, 8-3. They will place for third place on Sunday.

#2 Doubles Flight

  • Veterans Jose Porfirio Ordonez and Kay Bartmann were one of two Lynn squads to go undefeated on the day. The seniors first took down Hoffmann/Niemeyer of PBA in a close one, 9-8 (5), before dispatching Forcano/Matteoli of Barry in the semifinals. The #2 doubles flight championship will take place on Sunday.

#3 Doubles Flight

  • Youngsters Adam Lunding Johansson and Diego Valant held their own in the #3 doubles bracket, winning 8-4 and 9-7 to secure a spot in Sunday's championship.

#4 Doubles Flight

  • Ryan Neale and Renato Van Veggel fell 8-6 vs. Baehr/Thomas out of Florida Southern in their opening match but bounced back for an 8-5 victory over PBA's Meneses/Paz in the fifth-place tilt.


  • Baptista made his Fighting Knights debut while freshmen Neale and Valant saw the first collegiate action of their respective careers.

Singles action gets started bright and early tomorrow, Saturday. Sept. 15 on the second day of the invite.
