BOCA RATON, Fla.- The Lynn University softball team lost its first game of Sunshine State Conference match-ups, 11-6, to Rollins (11-5) on Friday afternoon. The Blue & White (11-7) were led by Devin Kochergen who batted 1-for-3 with two runs batted in. Kasey Murray (6-5) was hit with the loss pitching three and a third innings before Missy Mongomery (3-1) came in for relief.
Lynn found itself in trouble early when the Tars scored three runs on five hits to open up the game. In the bottom of the inning Kochergen smacked a homerun to give Lynn their first run of the game.
Rollins added on four more runs on four hits in the top of the second, extending the lead to 7-1. Lynn answered back with two runs in the bottom of the third, with back-to- back singles to left field by Kasey Vassallo and Kasey Murray .
The Fighting Knights would score again in the bottom of the six bringing in three runs on homerun by Crystal Cano who came in to pinch hit for Sydney Schmidt. With Christina Carvatta and LeAnne Wright on base, the right-handed batter knocked the ball deep into left field hitting the second homerun of the game for the Fighting Knights. The Tars added an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning to extend the lead to 11-6. Lynn was unable to plate any runs in the bottom of the inning, giving Rollins the win.
Murray allowed 9 runs, on 11 hits while Niki Fogle (8-3) allowed six runs on nine hits. Each pitcher had a pair of strike outs in the ballgame.
