Softball Swept on Senior Day

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Lynn University's softball team lost both games in a doubleheader to Nova Southeastern on Saturday; dropping a tight 3-2 contest in the opener before losing 8-1 in the series finale. Before the games, started Lynn honored seniors Devin Kochergon, Danielle McNeill and Kasey Murray in their final home games wearing the Blue & White. With the sweep, the Fighting Knights drop to 18-21 overall and 2-13 in the Sunshine State Conference.

In the first game, Lynn scored a pair of runs early to take the 2-0 lead. Cherise McEnery connected on her seventh home run of the season in the second inning, a solo shot to right center field for the first run of the day. Kochergen then doubled to right center field to bring home McNeill in the following frame.

The Sharks (19-14, 8-4 SSC) knotted up the score in the fourth inning, though, after taking advantage of a two-out error to score twice.  They would go on to grab the lead in the fifth to secure the series.

Missy Montgomery (7-7) was tagged with the loss after pitching her 12thcomplete game of the 2014 campaign. The junior from Oviedo, Fla., allowed three runs, one earned, off of eight hits with one strikeout.

In the encore, both squads scored a run in the opening frame. Murray drove home the lone run with a deep single into left center field to score Kaci Vassalo. The senior from Lutz, Fla., went 2-for-3 with a RBI in her final contest at the Lynn Softball Field.
