Softball Falls on Final Day in Clearwater

Clearwater, Fla.- The Lynn University softball team lost its final game at the Clearwater Tournament, 12-4, to West Florida (4-6) on Sunday. The Blue & White (4-5) was led by Cherise McEnery who batted 2-for-3 with two RBI. Kasey Murray (2-3) was hit with the loss pitching a complete game despite striking out six. 

Lynn found itself in trouble early when the Argos scored three runs on three hits in the top of the second inning. In the bottom of the inning McEnery hit a double off the centerfield fence to score Kaci Vassallo from second, who led off the inning with an infield single, cutting the deficit to two. 

UWF added on four more runs on three hits and two Fighting Knights errors in the top of the third, extending the lead to 7-1. Lynn answered back with two runs, the first on a sacrifice fly by Devin Kochergen, and the second on a double from Vassallo. 

The Fighting Knights would score again in the bottom of the six on McEnery's second RBI double of the game to trail 7-4 heading into the final frame. The Argos added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the sixth inning before a three-run blast by Jessica Wilkinson would extend the lead to 12-4. Lynn was unable to plate any runs in the bottom of the inning. 

Murray allowed 12 runs, four earned, on 11 hits while Lauren Register (1-0) allowed four earned runs on nine hits while striking three.
