Softball Walks Off Against Colorado Christian; Loses to Shorter on Second Day in Clearwater

Clearwater,Fla.- Lynn University's softball team split on the second day at the Clearwater Tournament hosted by Eckerd on Saturday afternoon. The Fighting Knights opened with a 4-3 walk-off win against Colorado Christian (4-4) in extra innings before falling, 10-1, in six innings to Shorter (4-4). Kasey Murray pitched a complete game to start the day allowing just four hits for her third win of the season. At the plate, Murray went 5-for-6 for the Blue & White over the two-game stretch.

Lynn score first in the bottom of the third inning when a single to right field by Kaci Vassallo scored Danielle McNeill from second base. The Fighting Knights added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth in a double by Devin Kochergen for a 3-0 lead.

Down to her last strike, CCU's J Romine tripled to right field with bases loaded to tie the game 3-all. Lynn was unable to score until the eighth winning when Vassallo hit a single up the middle to score Sara Vazquez and give the Blue & White the win.

Vassallo went 2-5 with two RBI including the game-winning hit while Murray was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate.

Katelyn Key started the second game in the pitching circle for Lynn but was pulled after Shorter scored three runs in the second inning. She allowed seven hits in her first loss of the season. Missy Montgomery came in to relieve Key but allowed five earned runs over three and a third innings before Murray came in to close out the game for the final two outs.

The Fighting Knights got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the second when Jasmine Campos singled to center field to score Leanne Wright who had led off the inning and reached on a throwing error by SU's third baseman.

Shorter scored five runs in the third inning on six hits to take a 5-1 lead. The Hawks added five runs in the top of the sixth inning on four hits. Lynn was unable to score in the bottom of the sixth which ended the game after just six innings.

Kalei Kimbrell picked up her second win of the season for Shorter pitching a complete game allowing four hits and one run, which was unearned.
