Women’s Basketball Tames Lions with Ease

Miami Gardens, Fla. – Lynn University women's basketball team entered the lion's den on Saturday afternoon and came out unscathed, winning 60-44 at Florida Memorial.  Charla Nelson-James recorded her third double-double of the season with 10 points and 12 rebounds while Amanda Schultz and Kira Harvey shared scoring duties with 15 points apiece.

The game began with Lynn (5-3) scoring the first basket off a jumper from Shultz. That basket would turn into a 6-0 run as the Fighting Knights held Florida Memorial (3-6) scoreless for the first four and a half minutes.

After LU built up a 10-point, 15-5, lead, the Lions battled back to close their deficit to five, 18-13, behind Dominique Jackson.  Jackson led all players with 18 points and 13 rebounds.  The Blue & White, though, ended the half on a 9-5 run to head to the locker room on top 27-18.

Kira Harvey led all scorers with nine points in the opening period while also recording four steals and Nelson-James continued her dominance with nine rebounds in the first half.  Harvey would finish with a career-high five steals.

The second half began with a run from the Lions as they were once again able to bring the game to within five, 30-25.   A Tylar Tracy layup started a 10-2 run that would ultimately put the game out of reach.   The Knights built up a lead by as many as 20 points before FMU closed the gap to 16 at the buzzer.

Although scoring only two points, Marquis Lee added six rebounds, five assists and two steals.

Lynn held Florida Memorial to a paltry 31.3 percent shooting from the field, including a measly 16.7 percent from three-point range.  A 43.3 percent second half carried Lu to 37.5 percent for the game.  Harvey and Schultz were a combined 7-for-13 from downtown as the team shot 34.6 percent overall.
