Women's Hoops Rattled by Moccasins

Lakeland, Fla. – A cold shooting start was too much to overcome for Lynn University's women's basketball team as it fell 53-30 to No. 23 Florida Southern on Saturday night.  Charla Nelson-James was the lone bright spot, logging her eighth double-double of the season with 10 points and a career-high 17 rebounds.  The Fighting Knights drop to 9-8 overall and 4-3 in the Sunshine State Conference.

Opening the game 2-for-21 from the field, Marquis Lee was able to temporarily snap the Blue & White out of their funk with a three from the left wing.  The trey halted a 10 minute LU scoring drought and pulled it to within 11 of the Moccasins, 18-7.

Florida Southern (14-3, 6-2 SSC) meanwhile caught fire on both ends of the court, with Sofie Lundberg knocking down a pair of threes and the defense continuing to stall the Knights' offense.  Lundberg scored eight of her 10 points in the first period.

Nelson-James cleaned the glass all game, pulling down 17 of the team's 50 rebounds, including nine on the offensive end.  Turnovers and missed lay-ups ultimately did Lynn in as the team turned the ball over 25 times.

The Fighting Knights were held to a paltry 17.2 percent shooting overall, including 11.8 percent from beyond the arc.  Florida Southern shot 40 percent from the field.

Lee recorded five steals, five rebounds and three assists while Kira Harvey was second the team with seven points and three steals.

Lynn returns to the hardwood on Wednesday, February 25, at 5:30 p.m. when it hosts Eckerd.  Fans can watch the action live at LynnFightingKnights.com by selecting the Game Central icon.
