Women’s Basketball Falls to Bucs

Miami Shores, Fla.—Despite a career-high 25-point performance from senior Marquis Lee, Lynn University's women's basketball team fell to the Barry University Buccaneers 67-61 on Wednesday.

Tashina Bailey was the only Fighting Knight with double figures in the scoring column with 10 other than Lee. Bailey also tallied five rebounds. Kira Harvey followed Bailey with nine points and five rebounds. Charla Nelson-James totaled a team-high seven rebounds and eight points. 

The first half went back-and-fourth and ended tied at 26. Barry compiled a six point advantage during the first period with 07:05 on the clock, but Lynn tallied a 9-3 run to tie it up at 24 with just over one minute remaining. 

The first half saw five ties and five lead changes between the Fighting Knights and Buccaneers. Lynn out-rebounded Barry 22-10 in half number one but could only muster eight second chance points.

The second half mirrored the first with both teams battling in an even contest. Lee erupted in the second half with 16 points in the period. With 06:02 remaining, Lynn tied the game at 55 on a Nelson-James jumper. On the next Lynn possession, Bailey rolled in a layup to give the Blue & White a two point advantage with 05:20 left in regulation. From that point, Barry closed out the game on a 12-4 run to garb the win.

Lynn shot 42.6 percent from the floor while Barry countered with a 40.8 percent mark. Lynn's 37.5 percent clip from downtown was answered by Barry's 39.1 percent mark. The Knights were out-rebounded by Barry 20-12 in the second half while grabbing only one offensive board and collecting no second chance points.
