Schultz Steals Game for Women’s Basketball

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Four points in overtime and a key steal by Amanda Schultz with two seconds left keyed Lynn University's women's basketball team to a 54-49 victory over Eckerd on Saturday night.  Schultz came off the bench to lead all scorers with 11 points while LaKendra Jones, Marquis Lee and Kira Harvey all scored 10 points apiece.  The Fighting Knights improve to 10-8 overall and 5-3 in the Sunshine State Conference.

This was a game where neither team was able to hold on to, nor run away with a lead.  The two schools combined for 11 ties and 10 lead changes.

Lynn held a slim three-point margin, 46-43, with 4:05 remaining in regulation until Kati Rausberg knocked down a three-pointer from the left corner to knot the game at 46.  Neither team was able to go back on top despite numerous attempts.  Jones had a chance to put the game in LU's favor but had her shot blocked by Krystal Charles while Tylar Tracy swatted away Amy Buccilla's lay-up with 1:58 left to play.

Harvey put the Knights on top 48-46 with a jumper in the paint seconds into OT but Eckerd (10-6, 4-4 SSC) hit a trey from Taylor Young to give the Triton's a one-point lead.  Jones would put Lynn ahead for goodafter Lee kept the play alive by diving out of bounds and finding her freshman teammate under the basket all alone for the lay-up.

Schultz then stepped up by connecting on 3-of-4 attempts from the free-throw line, fouling out both Linsey Niles and Krystal Charles in the process.  The big play came with Lynn grasping to a 52-49 advantage and Young driving up the court.  Harvey pressured the reigning SSC Player of the Week and Young forced a pass to the left sideline which Schultz snagged out of the air for the costly turnover.

Owners of a 42.2 team shooting percentage heading into this contest, Eckerd was held a 37.2 percent shooting from the hardwood.  Lynn forced 20 Triton turnovers and logged 10 steals while shooting 30.5 percent from the field and 69.6 percent from the charity stripe.
