Harvey’s Career Night Helps Women’s Hoops Roar Past Lions

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Making it look easy by draining shots all over thecourt, Kira Harvey paced the Lynn University women's basketball team to a 62-52 victory over Saint Leo on Wednesday night.  The redshirt junior scored a career-high 27 points on 9-of-17 shooting, including a sizzling 5-for-10 from three-point range, while also chiming in with four steals.

The victory over the Lions gave the Fighting Knights the most victories against a single opponent (24) in its program's history.  Overall LU improves to 11-9 overall and 6-4 in the Sunshine State Conference.

Despite the double-digit victory, the Blue & White got off to a slow start, trailing by as many as six points in the early goings.  Harvey, though, scored six of the team's final seven points over a 6:53 span to overtake Saint Leo 23-21 at the half .

The second period proved to be all Blue & White as they shot an eye-popping 53.8 percent from the field.  Charla Nelson-James opened the half by scoring two of her 14 points and the team's lead snowballed from two to 18, 44-26, during a 21-5 run.

Harvey tallied nine points in the 8:10 span while Marquis Lee contributed five points and Nelson-James seven.  Saint Leo (6-13, 0-9 SSC) never gave up and battled back from a 44-26 deficit to cut the lead to nine, 51-42, with 5:55 remaining to play.

Once again it was Harvey to halt the Lions momentum with a three from 24 feet away to put LU back on top by double-figures, 54-42.  LaKendra Jones put the finishing touches on the victory with four points and four rebounds towards the end of the contest.  She finished with four points and seven rebounds overall.

Lynn shot 41.5 percent from the game and held Saint Leo to 31.7 percent shooting.  In addition to Nelson-James offensive output, the SSC's leading shot blocker swatted away four shots while Tashina Bailey added three blocks, six points and seven rebounds off the bench.

The Blue & White return to the hardwood on Wednesday, February 8, at 5:30 p.m. when they host longtime rival Barry.  Fans can follow the action live at LynnFightingKnights.com by selecting the Game Central icon.
