WINTER PARK, Fla.- Lynn University's women's basketball team improved to 11-4 overall, 4-2 in the Sunshine State Conference on Saturday afternoon after defeating Rollins 70-62, in the Warden Arena. Kira Harvey led all scorers with 23 points, six assists, and five rebounds.
Lynn took the lead first with a Tashina Bailey layup. The lead would change six times over the course of the first half, with Lynn scoring 16 points in the paint. Tashina Bailey tallied 10 points in the first few minutes of the game. After a slow start from Harvey, she led the Knights in a 20-4 run to end the half, with 11 points. The Blue and White headed into the half with a 38-23 lead.
LU shot 38.2% from the field while holding the Tars to 26.1%. The Knights capitalized on their success from the charity line, connecting on all 10 free throws. Tashina Bailey finished the first half with 10 points and five boards, while Charla Nelson-James contributed eight points and two blocks.
Rollins came out of the half with new momentum, slowly cutting down the Knights lead. Although the Tars never took the lead in the second half they trailed by two on four different occasions. Rollins improved its shooting to 36.8% from the field and grabbed down 19 rebounds, 10 offensive. Lynn also improved its shooting in the second half to 57.1% with Harvey totaling 12 points.
Tashina Bailey totaled 12 points and eight rebounds and Nelson-James had 12 points, seven rebounds, and three blocks in the victory. LU pulled down 39 boards, 30 defensive in the win.
The Knights will travel to Palm Beach Atlantic on Wednesday, January 23, in their second non-conference matchup of the season against the Sailfish. Tip off is slated for 5 pm.
