BOCA RATON, Fla. – Rallying from an early 12-point deficit, Lynn University's women's basketball team roared back behind Kira Harvey and held on for a 48-47 victory over Rollins on Saturday afternoon. This marks the first time in program history the Fighting Knights have taken the season series against the Tars. Harvey led all scorers with 22 points, her second consecutive 20+ point outing. Lynn improves to 16-7 overall and 9-4 in the Sunshine State Conference.
Trailing by seven, 28-21, heading into the break, the Blue & White came out with a 9-1 run to tie the game 30-30. Stunned by the sudden reversal in fortune, Rollins (15-7, 6-6 SSC) went on its own run, an 11-2 burst, to go on top 43-34.
The Fighting Knights once again battle back while throwing the Tars off balance on the offensive end. Shatorria Baker drained a three from well beyond the arc and Harvey followed with a shot at the free throw line to once again cut the deficit to one.
After three more Tars missed shots, Harvey put LU on top, 46-45, with 3:52 remaining with a fast break lay-up from Baker. Rollins succumbed to Lynn's defensive pressure over the final three minutes until scoring a basket with 28 seconds on the clock made it a one-point, 48-47, LU lead. The Tars had one last chance to win the game but Charla Nelson-James altered the shot of Ashley Losch at the last minute and the ball rimmed out to give Lynn the victory.
Lynn's defense held Rollins to a paltry 27.4 percent shooting and forced 15 turnovers, 13 of which came in the form of LU steals. Tashina Bailey notched a team-best five swipes, followed by three from Harvey. Conversely, LU shot 34 percent from the field and committed 14 turnovers.
The Fighting Knights are back in action on Wednesday, February 20, at 5:30 p.m. when they play Florida Tech in the final home game of the season. Lynn will honor its senior class, Tashina Bailey, Karolina Bazua, Kira Harvey and Amanda Schultz, in a pregame ceremony.
