MELBOURNE, Fla. - Lynn University's women's basketball team defeated Florida Tech in the Clemente Center on Wednesday night, 60-47. Lynn stands at 10-4 overall, 3-2 in the Sunshine State Conference. Charla Nelson-James was one rebound away from a double-double, with 13 points and nine rebounds, to lead the Knights to victory.
Florida Tech took quick 9-2 lead in the opening minutes of the first half. Lynn would then fight back to take the lead, 18-16 after a Tylar Tracy trey. The lead would change six more times over the final minutes of the half, with Florida Tech holding a one-point lead at the buzzer, 24-25.
LU shot 40% from the field in the half, with Charla Nelson-James and Tracy leading the Knights with six points a piece. Florida Tech shot only 27.8% from the field and was led by Ida Gustafsson who tallied eight first half points.
Three minutes into the second half the Knights took control of the game, and never turned back after a layup by Zachara Bailey. Lynn took its biggest lead of 13, with 1:13 remaining on the clock, 58-45. The Panthers answered back but it was not enough, Lynn prospered with the 60-47, 13-point victory.
Kira Harvey scored all of her 11 points in the second half, adding eight rebounds. Shattoria Baker added 12 points while Zachara Bailey pulled down nine boards. Lynn shot 39.3% from the field in the final half, and pulled down a total of 47 rebounds in the win.
