St. Petersburg, Fla.- Lynn University's women's basketball team ended the regular season on a high note with a 67-55 win over Eckerd on Saturday afternoon. Charla Nelson-James recorded her first double-double of the season with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Lynn heads into the post season with an 18-8 record, while landing at 11-5 in the Sunshine State Conference.
The game started off with the Fighting Knights on a 14-2 run. With 6:01 to play LU would hold a 23-14 lead before the Tritons would finish the half on a 8-3 run. Lynn would head into the break with a 26-22 lead.
Nelson-James led all scorers in the opening half with 11 points and six rebounds. Fellow senior Kira Harvey added eight points while theteam shot 38.5 percent from the field. Eckerd shot 32 percent while the Blue and White pulled down 16 boards.
The momentum was turned up in the second half as LU came out on a 11-2 run. With ten minutes to play the Blue and White maintained a 43-28 lead. With three minutes remaining in regulation Eckerd cut the deficit to ten after a Tritons trey, 59-49. Lynn eased into the 67-55 win in the last game of the regular season.
Havery's 16 second half points combined with Nelson-James' 12, helped lift the Blue and White to 58.3 percent shooting. Overall the Knights combined for 48 percent from the floor while Nelson-James and Harvey scored 24 a-piece.
