Harvey’s Career Night Carries Women’s Hoops to Victory

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Lynn University's women's basketball team avenged its loss to Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras from a year ago following a 66-51 victory on Monday night.  Kira Harvey was impressive in the Fighting Knights season-opener, scoring a career-high 29 points on 10-of-15 shooting while chipping in five rebounds, four steals and a blocked shot.  Lynn improves to 14-6 all-time in season openers and 15-5 in home openers.

It was a sloppy first-half by both parties as the two teams combined to go 14-of-58 from the field but it was the Blue & White's defense that helped them take a 24-11 lead into the locker room.  Lynn scored 12 points off of 13 Rio Piedras turnovers.

The second half was where LU turned on its jets, nearly doubling its overall point total behind the hot hand of Harvey.  A minute into the period, the redshirt senior drained one of her three trey's on the evening to breathe new life into the Fighting Knights' offense.

Freshman Shatorria Baker gave the team their largest lead of the game to that point,40-22, minutes later with a three from the right wing and Lynn never looked back.  Baker finished with 16 points in her debut with logging three steals.

Not lost on the night was Amanda Schultz's gritty effort in the paint.  Schultz nearly missed out on a double-double with 10 points and a game-high nine rebounds, four of which came on the offensive end.

Lynn shot 41.4 percent in the second half and 34.9 percent overall while hitting 32 percent from beyond the arc and 77.8% from the free-throw line.  Puerto Rico was held to a mere 16.7 percent from the floor in the first half but ended up knocking down 32.7 percent overall.

The Blue & White return to the court on Tuesday, November 13, at 2 p.m. when they host Puerto Rico-Mayaguez.  Fans can listen to the action live at LynnFightingKnights.com.  Don't forget to 'Like' us on Facebook and follow @LUKnights on Twitter and Instagram.
