BOCA RATON, Fla. - Lynn University's women's basketball team collected its second Sunshine State Conference victory with a 57-54 win over Florida Southern on Saturday afternoon. The Fighting Knights improve to 9-4 on the season and 2-1 in SSC play. Sharneka McCatty led all scorers with 18 points and 11 rebounds, shooting 6-of-9 from the field. Tylar Tracy and Zachara Bailey notched an additional 10 points each.
The Fighting Knights came out strong in the opening period, forcing 11 turnovers with good ball pressure and solid defense. The Mocs (4-9, 0-4 SSC) battled back, but found themselves trailing by the largest margin of 13 points, 29-16, with four minutes left to play. McCatty headed Lynn's offense in the first half scoring eight points with four rebounds and one block while Zachara Bailey had seven points with two steals.
Florida Southern put up a good fight in the second period, looking to get their first win in conference play, but they were no match for the Fighting Knights. Although the Mocs outscored Lynn 31-26 in the second period, it wasn't enough to seal the deal.
