FORT VALLEY, GA. – Lynn University's women's basketball team defeated Fort Valley State University 77-73 on the road Friday night at the Health and Physical Education Complex. Sharneka McCatty notched her second double-double of the season with 22 points and 15 rebounds while Zarchara Bailey put up 20 points with six assists.
The Fighting Knight (7-1, 1-0 SSC) started the first half with fluid ball movement right from the whistle. Tylar Tracy led all scorers in the opening period with 11 points, going 3-of-4 from three-point-range while Izidora Madzarevic added an additional eight points. Although the Blue and White had a solid performance in the first period, the Wildcats (2-7) would end with the 39-36 advantage.
LU came out of the gates with a pair of quick layups by Jayde Sparks and Shatorria Baker to take the lead 42-41. Lynn kept the momentum rolling, going on a five-point run, and controlling the ball for the majority of the remaining 15 minutes. Fort Valley made a good attempt to come back in the final two minutes of the contest, hitting four three-pointers, but came up short to the persistent Fighting Knights.
Lynn shot 43.9 percent from the field while holding the Wildcats to shoot 40.8 percent. LU shot an impressive 72.7 percent from the charity stripe while Fort Valley held the advantage in shots from three-point range, outshooting the Fighting Knights 44-to-35 percent.
