Women's Basketball Downs Puerto Rico-Mayaguez For Third Straight Win

BOCA RATON, Fla.-Lynn University's women's basketball team set the tone for the season winning its third consecutive game 85-50 over Puerto Rico-Mayaguez on Wednesday afternoon. The Fighting Knights were led offensively by Tifani Kerrison who had 16 points while adding two blocks.

The Blue and White raced out to an early 11-6 lead in the first half, keeping possession of the ball while holding the Bulldogs to 20 percent shooting from the field, compared to its own 45.8 shooting percent. Kerrison scored 11 points in the opening half, going 6-for-6 from the free throw line and Isadora Mazdarevic had a team-high five rebounds. Lynn shot a perfect 15-for-15 from the charity stripe as well in the period.

In the second half, the Fighting Knights continued to dominate. Nina Guillaume and Charla Nelson-James scored 12 points and 11 points, respectively. Lynn took its biggest lead of the day, 79-43, with three minutes remaining. LU shot 45.5 percent while holding Mayaguez to shooting 24.2 percent from the field overall.

Kerrison was joined by Guillaume, Nelson-James and Zachara Bailey in double digit scoring. Nelson-James pulled down a game-high eight boards while out-rebounding the Bulldogs 55-36. In the victory Lynn scored 48 points from its bench with 18 second chance points.
