St. Petersburg, Fla.- Lynn University's women's basketball team defeated Eckerd (7-10, 1-7 SSC) on the road Wednesday night in Sunshine State Conference play. Shatorria Baker led the Fighting Knights with 13 points, four assists and two steals. Lynn moves to 10-8 overall and 3-5 in SSC action.
Eckerd took the lead early shooting impressively in the opening minutes taking an 11-4 lead. The Tritons had their largest lead, by 10, at 12:19. Baker drained a three-point shot from downtown to give Lynn its first lead of the game, 25-24, with just over five minutes to play in the opening half. Eckerd took the lead back and extended it to nine to head to the locker rooms ahead, 35-26, at halftime.
The Tritons had seven three-point shots in the first half and shot 48.3 percent from the field while Lynn shot 43.5 percent and 40 percent from behind the arc. Baker scored 11 points in the first half while all scorers were led by Rana Thomas who had 12 points for the Tritons.
Lynn pressured early in the second half, cutting the deficit and trailing by five for majority of the half. The Blue & White had its largest lead of three with 6:12 to play. Tied with 38.9 seconds remaining in regulation the Fighting Knights had one last opportunity but couldn't get a shot off which forced overtime. Lynn held the Tritons to shoot 0-for-6 from behind the arc in the second half.
Successful free throws by Lynn lifted them to the SSC victory. Bailey scored five points in overtime to get her game total to eight.
Tylar Tracy and Isidora Madzarevic scored 11 points and 10 points, respectively. Lynn shot 34.6 percent from the field in the game and pulled down 38 rebounds. Eckerd's Thomas led all scorers with 15 points, three rebounds and two steals.
Lynn returns home Saturday, February 1, when the Fighting Knights host Florida Tech for the second meeting of the season between the two teams.
