Women's Basketball Starts Season with a Win

PENSACOLA, Fla.-Lynn University's women's basketball team kicked off the 2013-14 season with a 58-54 victory over the University of West Florida in the first match up in the Comfort Inn Tip- off Classic. Tylar Tracy came up big for the Fighting Knights, raking in twelve points by going 2-for-6 from three-point range.

LU started slow allowing West Florida to notch 12 unanswered points forcing Head Coach Nikki Washington to call a time out five minutes into the game. Following the timeout, Lynn went on a quick rally.  Zachara Bailey hit a pivotal three-pointer giving the Fighting Knights some momentum.

Still down 16-7 Lynn turned up the heat on the Agroaunts and battled back on a 10-0 the lead for the first time in the game 17-16. The head-to-head fight wouldn't allow either team to take the game by more than a margin of four for the remainder of the half.  Shattoria Baker marked 11 points in the first half to keep the Fighting Knights on a constant run.

Trailing 32-30 going into the second half the Blue and White looked to make another comeback. Both teams were relentless going back and forth. Tracy had a huge turn around, scoring ten points and leading the Fighting Knights to a win.

Lynn shot 41.8 percent from the field while the Agronauts shot 33.3 percent. Sharneka McCatty put down 11 baskets and had four assists on the night, making her one of the key players in the game along with Tracy and Baker.

The Fighting Knights won't have much time to rest as they are back in action on Saturday, November 9, taking on 12th-ranked Delta State at 11 am.  Make sure to log on to LynnFightingKnights.com and follow @LUKnights on Twitter, Instagram and Vine for in-game updates all season long.
