BOCA RATON, Fla. – Following a standout two-year career at Lynn University, women's basketball alumna Paola Vazquez-Concepcion has signed a professional contract with Atenienses de Manati in the Baloncesto Superior Nacional Femenino (BSNF).
Vazquez-Concepcion was recently selected with the third pick of the first round and inked a contract with Atenienses de Manati. The 16-game season begins on October 6.
"Playing for Lynn the last two years under Coach Hudd [Julia Huddleston] and Coach [Stephan] Walton was incredible," said Vazquez-Concepcion. "They always gave me opportunities and believed in me and never told me no. To be able to play in the BSNF with Atenienses de Manati I am very grateful to God, and with all the work that I put forth in this sport that has given me many opportunities I am very grateful to God."
Vazquez averaged 14.7 points per game in her career at Lynn, setting the school's single-season record for three-pointers made in 2016-17 (74). She shot 39.8 percent from the floor and 32.9 percent from long range while converting free-throws at a 73.4 percent clip. She graduated fourth on Lynn's all-time leaderboard in scoring average, three-point percentage (34.8%), steals per game (2.4) and minutes per game (33.1), and sixth for three-point field goals made (129). She was named to the Sunshine State Conference All-Newcomer Team in 2016-17 and was an All-SSC Honorable Mention the same year.
"This is such an exciting time for [Paola] and our program," says head coach Julia Huddleston. "She is a great example of how hard work can lead to opportunities to play professionally after college. Most importantly, however, she is an amazing person and we know she will represent Lynn's culture of Spirit, Service and Strength where she goes in life."
