Fizer Named SSC Women’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week

Melbourne, Fla. - Lynn University's women's basketball team received a last-minute Christmas present following the announcement of Kelsi Fizer as the Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week, as announced on Monday.  Fizer is the second member of the Fighting Knights to receive SSC weekly recognition this season.

The sophomore out of Douglasville, Ga., averaged 9.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals and one block while chipping in 9.0 points per game in helping the Blue and White win two games at the Lynn Holiday Classic to improve to 7-1 overall.

Fizer played a strong role on the defensive and offensive end in a victory over Shaw.  She pulled off her second career double-double with 10 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, two steals and a block.  In the squad's win against Johnson C. Smith, the sophomore forward grabbed a game-high nine boards with one block and three steals, one shy of her personal-best.

Fizer is the second Fighting Knight to garner SSC weekly accolades, following Sydney Fields Defensive Player of the Week selection on Nov. 19.  This marks the first time since the 2012-13 the women's basketball program has two different player of the week recipients.

Lynn is back on the hardwood Saturday, Dec. 29, at Eckerd, as it gets into the bulk of Sunshine State Conference play.  Fans can watch the 2 p.m. tip-off live at LynnFightingKnights.com.
